Weekly Workout Recap!: Bootcamp and LEGO

I had an AWESOME week of training last week. I’m not sure what happened, but suddenly everything just started clicking! 36 miles in 1 week for me is stellar and I actually completed every workout on my marathon training plan! (I’m often guilty of skipping the shorter runs…)

It probably helped that we had some major snow (12 inches) over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday. I had to work from home and being all cooped up only made me antsy to get out and run. Of course, I was stuck on the treadmill, but I don’t mind getting the chance to catch up on some cable TV 😀 It would be really tough, if not just plain dangerous, for me to run outside. The sidewalks are stacked in snow too deep to run in and even though I’ve seen a couple people taking to the streets, they really shouldn’t be out on our streets the way they are “plowed”. Trust me, I am more than willing to make room for you… but I can’t control my car skidding on the packed snow and I’d rather you not be in the way.

Anyway, I also took advantage of a Groupon this week and started going to a bootcamp class. I’ve really wanted to start incorporating strength training into my routine for a long time, but I’m the worst at actually doing it on my own. I had tried CrossFit previously, but I just am not in love with it. The local ‘box’ wasn’t convenient to my house and it was bit more than I wanted to pay since we already belong to a regular gym. The bootcamp I chose focuses on a lot of bodyweight exercises (push-ups, planks, squats) with dumbbells and kettlebells as well. It was exactly what I was looking for! I was SO sore after Monday’s class that I almost skipped Wednesday, but well, I won’t be so sore if I keep it up!

feb 3 week 1

feb 3 weekend

The weekend was long run filled. My plan has me doing a semi-long run on Saturday and then a long run Sunday. Since I want to ramp up the number of overall miles I am running each week, I like this set-up, but it will be interesting once I start getting back to long bike rides too.

The weekend was also full of LEGO. Paul’s birthday was a few weeks ago and he bought himself the new Simpson’s house kit. It doesn’t look like it from this photo, but it is huge and opens up to show off all the rooms inside.

We spent a lot of this weekend putting it together, having some beers and watching the Olympics. A perfect weekend in hiding from the FREEZING temps! Thankfully only 9 days until Orlando! It is supposed to be a high of 85 on the day of the Princess Half. I can NOT wait to be at the pool! GIVE ME SUN! (Anyone complaining of the heat will promptly be punched in the face by me).
